Hi there,
I'm having an end of season sale in my Christmas Shop, Sew Love Christmas. There are many one of a kind bundles for sale, priced right! Sale will end on February 4th and shop won't reopen until mid summer.

See, the last time I posted, that evening my mother had a massive heart attack. Long, long story short, it was a long recovery but she is back in her home now and doing well.

Making a Rainbow

Have you noticed the Bottled Rainbows badge on the side of my blog? Can't miss it... a pretty grid of beautiful colors. It is for the Bottled Rainbows quilt along. A Ticker Tape quilt that you quilt as you go.
Fun! So fun that even though my pile of unfinished projects is toppling over, I had to play along.
My friend Rachel from Stitched in Color is hosting it and giving wonderful step by step instructions. Her blog is so inspiring and I'm honored to sponsor it :)
So here is my first block, only 15 blocks to go....

I made up a few scrap bags to sell in my shop as I was cutting mine. Not enough to make the whole quilt but enough to get you started.

Well! First let me say Merry Christmas... Happy New Year... Happy Valentines Day!
Such a naughty, bad blogger I've been! I do write blog posts, I should say I think of blog posts, lots of them, but don't find the time to type them down. Worst part is once it's been so long trying to jump back in but here goes....
shop news:
** Just marked items in my Christmas shop way down for a final sale and listed some one of a kind sets. I'll close up the Christmas shop on March 1st and then will reopen late summer/ early fall for next season. Already have loads of new stuff ordered and will show some sneak peeks once it starts rolling in during May :)
** I have a bunch of ooak sets for my regular shop too and will get those listed next week... I'll let you know the exact day/time, they always get snatched up right away because they are seriously priced to sell!
** Have you heard Joel Dewberry is coming out with Aviary 2?? The first collection was wildly popular and this one is sure to be too. The birds will be back in 6 gorgeous colors. I have the whole collection ordered and can't wait for it to come in. Here's a few...

Yes, there is finally a winner!!!
Wow! What a sale! I've been swamped and have finally caught up, whew!!! Thank you, thank you! I was literally at my cutting table around the clock for days and days..... and days :)
I loved reading all of your Christmas traditions, so heartwarming. We have many Christmas traditions but I think my favorite is Christmas Eve. We stay at home all day making homemade ravioli. Yes, all 5 kids help and there ends up being ice skating on the hard wood floor due to all of the flour everywhere. It's a big huge mess but so very yummy and fun being together all day. After the clean up and delicious dinner, we go off to Midnight Mass which is just magical and peaceful and so special. *sigh*
Okay... I'm dreaming of Christmas and you guys are just wondering who the winner of the gorgeous velveteen is......so.... here you go, the winner is number 2, Joontoons! I will be in touch!

So never mind that my last post was the 4th of July, the 4TH OF JULY!!! Wow, time sure flies whether you're having fun or not ;)

It's all fun around here (x5) (HA!) and here are some pictures to prove it....

That last one quite possibly could be the Christmas picture this year.... we'll see... because you know how it goes at Christmas..... I coordinate all their outfits... and pick the perfect spot.....and the perfect day, weather wise.... and I sit this one here and that one there.... and fix the hair... and stand on my head and take 5000 pictures and none of them are quite right. This was much easier, plop them on the hay, say cheese, perfect picture. done in 20 seconds.
Only one little problem, it doesn't include this little bundle of fluff that we acquired while on vacation this summer (yes, that's right, while on vacation, talk about a kids best souvenir ever!!!)

He's a sweetheart really. I've always been a large dog kind of person but boy are the small dogs more manageable!!

So I'm back and promise to post again before um......Christmas?!

Really we have a lot of catching up to do.... be back soon!

Giveaway Day is here again!!

Last day of the Kids Clothes Challenge, first day of Giveaway Day!!
I finished a couple more outfits for the Kids Clothes Week over at elsiemarley.com. Thanks Meg, that was fun and I was happy to turn out some kids clothes faster than I would have otherwise!
I made a couple "Ava" outfits, one for my Lili and one for her sweetie cousin's birthday. Here she is modeling them.

Victory!!!

I did it, I really did! Sewing with the laminated cotton wasn't exactly a walk in the park but was much easier than I anticipated. I was able to use the regular needle on my machine and really didn't make any adjustments at all. My dear Bernina handled it quite well. The only advice I would give is that you have to pin, pin, pin because it doesn't "ease" well. And obviously it can't be ironed so that took some getting used to since I like to press like crazy!

It was fun to choose fabrics, I was inspired by the book and the author's saying "Fabrics that do not "match" match when they are sewn together." I pulled a little Amy and then added some Anna and threw in some fun trims.

The jacket is lined with flannel which worked out well because I felt like I could try the pattern on the lining and then repeat it on the laminate. Basically it was like making two jackets. Lots and lots of topstitching for sure!

I'll leave you with a ton of photos cause I'm just a little bit..... who am I kidding, flipping happy about the way it turned out! And so is the middle daughter :)

Stretching my sewing skills!!

Happy Mother's Day!! I hope you got as smothered as I did with love and handmade goodies! Not sure what is better, the handmade gifts made at school or the excitement of the child giving it. Our first grader came home Friday barely containing her excitement and had to hurry and hide her gift for me until Sunday.
So, so cute!!

Next up, it's already day 2 of the Kids Clothes Week Challenge! I stumbled upon this website last week just in time to sign up. No big rules, just sew for an hour every day this week. I can do that :) She has a ton of great tutorials too so be sure to check it out. My only fear is the project that I'm working on might take the whole week! It all started with this book~

It arrived in the mail and we gushed over all the pretty clothes and I put it on the stack with all my other books.
It didn't stay there long.
The following conversation took place next

middle daughter ~ Mom
me ~ yes dear
middle daughter ~ what are you going to do with all those rolls of fabric, you know the ones with that coating on them?
me ~ you mean the laminated cottons?
middle daughter ~ yes, that's it...are you just going to sell it all and not make anything with it??
me ~ (uh oh, she actually wants me to sew with that stuff??) um, well maybe I'll make some placemats.
( Yes, nice rectangular placemats)
middle daughter~ you know I need a new rain coat? and that new book you got has a perfect patten in it.
me ~ ***gulp***

First she wants me to sew with fabric that is coated with plastic. Yikes.
Then she wants me to use a European pattern that I have to add on the seam allowances to all the pattern pieces. And the directions are, well let's just say they don't walk you through every step like Patty does. Wow.
And did I mention that the pattern has a collar not a hood and that just won't do.
Just put a hood on it she tells me.
I'm in trouble.
This
will be a challenge.

yesterday and Today

yesterday ~ I thought about how I should start exercising and knock off eating all the Easter left overs...
Today ~ I walked two miles, did arm exercises, and 42 jumping jacks.

yesterday ~ I ate three servings of Special K for breakfast and two sugar cookies for lunch...
Today ~ I had one serving, yes even measured it to see what the heck one serving looked like and took the time to slice some fresh strawberries on top.

yesterday ~ I felt sluggish and tired and was in the "less I do the more tired I am" rut...
Today ~ I am filled with energy.

yesterday ~ I was too busy feeling tired to pray.
Today ~ I prayed the Rosary as I walked and am filled with hope.

yesterday ~ I got out my shorts and my favorite pair doesn't. quite. fit.
Today ~ I'm telling you that they will fit by Memorial Day. So that you can remind me. And demand a photo of me in. those. shorts. on Memorial Day. Demand it I tell you!

Are you in a rut? Get up, get out, get moving with me!! It feels great!

Hi all!
Absence makes the heart grow fonder right?? It's been a while, I know...
I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Blessed Easter! Ours was beautiful the whole way around, from the Vigil Mass, to the egg and basket hunt, to the weather, warm and sunny. Hope yours was too!

I promise... no more pictures of snow from me... at least not any time soon ;) It's all gone, the flowers are blooming, birds are singing, and the flip flops are back on! I've been busy spring cleaning and will be announcing a sale in my shop soon... give me a day or so. I owe you patient friends a giveaway too and have it all ready, just need to snap a photo. It's a good one, perfect for spring :)

Has anyone seen January?

I mean I lost it, really could this be well into February already?? Crazy, just crazy. January is a big blur of birthdays x3 :) and pneumonia x4 :(

And the weather, well this picture is before the 12 more inches that are piling up right now! That my friends was the mere 24 inches we had the other day.

No school.... three days now.

It kind of goes like this

play in snow, hot cocoa, bake something, sew a little, cook, eat, repeat :)

I had big plans on a New Years post with a picture a month....more for me to look back on than anything else but seems kind of silly...now that it's February!!! So I made a New Years collage, good enough.

Check in with me on Valentines Day. Plan to give something away....hopefully something I've made but if not then some fabric even though I know you're tired of me giving away fabric ;)

There's some great new stuff coming in...just listed Sugar in my shop. It's a pretty colorful line for spring/summer. Has me thinking of windows open, fresh air, and trips to the ice cream shop....in my flip flops! There's some new 2D Zoo colors and a great line, Wheels, that is fun for the little guys. My little guy, the one up there in the picture with no coat out in the snow (bad mommy), is getting a shirt made out of the 2D Zoo, he's crazy for elephants :)

That's about it for now, I'll leave you with a picture of something I've been sewing, a skirt for my niece, pretty and girly, just like her...

Hi there.... popping in with a few more snowy pictures to help cool off my friends in Australia, crazy hot over there! Our kids had three 2 hour delays this week and school was cancelled for today :)

Luckily I followed the salt truck the whole way to the post office and was able to get my orders out.

Surprise, here I am at the top of your blog roll!! I know, it doesn't happen very often :0

I always go to post something and before you know it I'm reading everyone else blogs and it's the middle of the night...again...

So before I get sidetracked....again... I want to thank everyone for the Sew Love Christmas love! The shop is doing well and I've sold out and restocked a lot already. It's been fun and I'm getting a lot of ideas for next year too. And remember those sets that I mentioned a couple posts ago...I was going to list a bunch every Monday??? I know, I listed them one week and then with two busy shops and half of us with the flu, well you know how that goes! I do have more though and am listing them as soon as I'm done with this post. I think I have 8 or 9 that I will be listing. They will be priced to sell!

I've managed to fit in a little sewing this fall but realized I never shared my summer sewing, so here are a few pictures of some things I made this summer.

It's easy to guess what my favorite thing to sew is :)

Here's a dress for my niece Halle, modeled by our Lili using a mix of prints from Alexander Henry, Jennifer Paganelli, and Anna Maria Horner and the "Frida" pattern by Patty Young.

A sundress for Emma using the Mezzanine fabrics by Patty Young and my pal Julie's "Little Bow Chic Dress" pattern.

Love the bow in the back and by the way, this pattern is super simple to make, perfect for the beginner!

A halter for Chloe using the Summer Soiree prints by Paula Prass and Amy Butler's Halter pattern.

Love how the keyhole matched up with the "nosegay" in the fabric. Isn't it great when you plan something and it actually works out!

New Shop Launch

I've been typing and listing all day so am tired, tired, tired...but excited!! I launched my new shop today, Sew Love Christmas. Lots of great Christmas fabric and patterns. Just felt the need to put them in a shop of their own since I can only have 10 sections on Etsy and mine were all filled up :)

Hope you like it!! I'm thinking it will stay open through the first of the year, ending with a sale in January and then will close until fall 2010.

I've had some really pretty fabrics come in over the past week. The Girly Girl collection from Art Gallery is so pretty! The colors are just so beautiful!!

And then the fabric I've been waiting for since Spring Market, Teatime Floral 2 from Lakehouse Dry Goods. Her booth was my very favorite at Market. She had paper fans, the same print as the seed packs going the whole way around her booth.

If you like modern and trendy, then you better not look :) I'm not kidding, just leave now...and don't say I didn't warn you ;) This is nostalgic, vintage inspired polished cotton at its best. My favorite is the seed packs print, I'm using that for something, not sure what but something.

I'm still waiting for the print with the little tea cakes to come in, they had a problem with the printing on that one.

I would have to say though the biggest excitement for me this week was the unveiling of Meadowsweet by Sandi Henderson. I had already ordered it sight unseen but had to call and double up once I saw it. I'll be sitting on the curb waiting for the man in brown for that one!!

Love the browns and oranges, wish I could have them now for fall!

~~~Side Note~~~

I've cleaned out the closet in my studio again :) The closet is where the remnants go and the whoops, I cut the wrong amount pieces. Also the random fat quarters since you always cut 2.

So I have many, too many to list all at once, one of a kind sets that I've decided to list on Mondays. I figure I'll list about 5 of them every Monday morning and once they're gone, they're gone. The last time I did this, I had customers asking when I was going to list them and I had to tell them to look under my sold column :( So don't be disappointed, check in Monday mornings and snatch them up!

I know, I know, it's been a while. We had quite a summer with some scary medical issues with one of our children. Too many trips to the doctor, too many hospitals and tests, surgery and opinions, then second and third opinions... and the waiting and waiting for results. I am very, very thankful that right now, right this minute, all is well. Prayers have been answered. Thank you God for being so good. Thank you for teaching us to slow it down and hold tight to the precious children you have entrusted us with. Thank you for giving us hope.

Summer Sidewalk Sale

Just a quick post to let you know I've pulled all of my sale stuff out of my studio to make room for all the new goodies coming in!! Have you seen Summer Soiree and Full Bloom and Mezzanine? They are just beautiful and so summery! Anyway the hallway outside looks like I'm having a sidewalk sale :P Wish you could all come over and shop and have some cookies and coffee with me. My new best friend drives a VW :)

My computer got fried recently during a bad storm.

Threw me back a bit and I'm still trying to copy everything onto my new computer. If you emailed me and I haven't responded, better resend it. Luckily the geek squad came to the rescue. The kids thought I made up the name when I mentioned the Geek Squad was coming to help me with the computer. Imagine the snickering going on when the poor guy pulled up in this with his badge on :0

I had to refrain from asking him if they really made them wear the white socks with the shiny black dress shoes. I mean really. He was great though, totally let me pick his brain and ask him a bazillion questions.

It's all working out for the best, I was in need of a new computer anyway and am loving my new MacBook...now that I almost know how to use it....almost....

Anyway, more exciting things now, like back to sewing talk. Have you been quilting along with Dana at the Old Red Barn Co.? I have and it's been fun! It's not too late to start (believe me, I'm no where near caught up) She has been giving weekly instructions on making a quilt. One step at a time, week by week. At the very least I hope you've been entering the fabulous giveaways that she is doing. This week is the grand finale sewing machine giveaway. Then there's a little secret giveaway. It involves my shop. That's all I'm saying. Really. Only other thing I'm saying is you better check back in a week or so. You think my SewMamaSew giveaway was good, that was nuthin' !

When going through all of the comments from the Sew Mama Sew contest, I came across a website on someone elses blog, Craft Hope. Now I'm all about hope, our youngest daughters middle name is Hope, her first name is Lili which pretty much means Hope and a lot of time it is hope that gets us through, right? So I click on the Craft Hope badge and it takes me to the most wonderful site. Their motto is "spreading seeds of hope, one stitch at a time." Now this I love!

In their "about" page reads the following, "Craft Hope is a faith-based, love inspired project designed to share handmade crafts with those less fortunate. It is our hope to combine our love for crafting and desire to help others into a project to make a difference around the world."

So their last project was making dolls for children in Nicaragua. Although there were only days left before the dolls were due in, I knew I had to make a doll to send. So here is Lucy. And she is on her way filled with all the love that we could possibly stuff her with. and hope. lots and lots of hope.

Just wanted to pop in with a quick post as the final school days are winding down and keeping me busier than my normal busy! I finished up this skirt for our youngest daughter Lili. I used mostly Tina Givens and Amy Butler prints and the PinkFig pattern, the Mish Mash skirt. It was fun to put together :)

A lovely vignette with Bari J.'s debut collection, Full Bloom.

Pattern Designer Kay Whitt and myself. I checked in with her each day just to see what she was wearing! Well and to say hi just because she's so incredibly sweet!!

Here is a great trench made from her Sophie Trench Coat pattern. The fabric is a twill from Moda's Wonderland collection. I have a bit of it left in the jam colorway and am making this for sure! Love how she used the ladybug from the Rabbit Hole print as the top button!

Here is Lila Tueller in her beautiful booth featuring her newest collection, Santorini. She has a bunch of fun, new patterns coming as well!

Here are a couple quilts made with Joel Dewberry's new line, Deer Valley which he tells me is shipping soon!!

I sat in on one of Kaffe Fassett's classes. He has some great new prints coming out and had lots of stories to share.

Here is a picture of Heather Bailey and her BIGGEST fan ever, my daughter Chloe! They shared peeks into each others sketchbooks and Heather was happy to share some great tips for my budding designer. Heather has a gorgeous new line coming up for fall! The beautiful quilt in the backround is from Kaffe Fassett's prints.
